Some people thrive off it.
They throw little hooks out and try to reel others into their stories. They look for characters to play supporting roles. They like the limelight and find it hard to see into the shadows. They are always first in line. They are always relating the conversation back to themselves. They struggle to empathise.
They drain you of your energy. You walk away wondering why you feel so depleted. It is important not to carry their load. It’s their story. It’s their drama. It’s easy to get sucked in, and think it’s your problem too. But when you stand back, you see they are being driven by their own fears. Those fears have nothing to do with you.
You can just smile and with softness and compassion, distance yourself.
There’s nothing to fear. Life is full of love and loss, happiness and hurt. There’s no point fearing the tough times. They will come. You will lose people. It will happen. If you can peacefully accept that nothing lasts forever, then you are free to truly enjoy the moments. And those moments are all we have. Everything else exists only in our memory.
Resign yourself to live a life free of judgement. Accept graciously the love of others. You are worthy. This is your stage. You can tell the story as you wish. Anyone else’s drama belongs to them.
